A pathway for preparation of low-dimensional tungsten oxide nanostructures via physical vapor deposition in a reactive atmosphere of atomic oxygen is presented in our new Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter paper. The multi-technique study reveals two types of 1D tungsten oxide chains that exhibit support mediated charge redistribution, opening avenue for future functionalization.
